The fight for fair maps is not over!! Missourians delivered 305,968 signatures to the Missouri Secretary of State to put politicians’ gerrymandered map on the ballot in 2026. Local election authorities have completed their review, and Secretary of State Denny Hoskins has all the information he needs to certify the People Not Politicians referendum for the November ballot. As expected, Hoskins is making a last desperate attempt to silence the people’s voice in Missouri. We knew this was coming, of course, but just so we're clear this underhanded tactic is predictable, pathetic, and we WILL NOT accept it. Twenty years ago MOVPC and a team of partner organizations and incredible volunteers came together to start our state's Election Protection program. For two decades since then, we have anchored election protection for voters across the state of Missouri.
This year, Election Protection is more important than ever. Join us for a reception benefiting our EP program, and come together with other voting rights advocates as we gather in fellowship, look back on 20 years of Election Protection, honor some of the wonderful people who have contributed to this critical work including decades-long KC Election Protection Coordinators Pat Jones Macklin and Anita Russell, and raise funds to ensure that this program continues in Missouri for decades to come. Join Denise Lieberman, Executive Director of the Missouri Voter Protection Coalition (MOVPC) for a review of Missouri suffragettes, including many unsung African American Missouri women who worked tirelessly to secure voting rights for all women. While we celebrate August 26, 1920, as the day women won the right to vote, it would take another 45 years until August 28, 1965 with passage of the Voting Rights Act to strike down Jim Crow laws and make that right a reality for all women.
