Welcome to Missouri Mondays.

Last week we lost a beloved Kansas City activist and women’s rights and equality champion, Alice Kitchen. Women’s Equality Greater Kansas City posted “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Alice Kitchen, a co-founder of Women’s Equality Greater Kansas City, has passed away. Alice was an extraordinary and inspiring woman who dedicated her life to protecting women’s rights and defending the civil rights of those most vulnerable. Her impact and leadership will be deeply missed. As Alice once said, “My whole life, being around strong women is what has shaped me, made me, and nourished me through the years. Wherever I have been, that has been the heart and soul of who I am now and have been shaped by.”  To learn more about Alice’s remarkable legacy and lifelong contributions to equality and justice, we invite you to visit the link from Veteran Feminists of America, which also includes a video interview with Alice:  https://veteranfeministsofamerica.org/vfa-pioneer-histories-project-alice-kitchen/.”

Let us honor Alice’s memory by continuing her tireless work fighting injustice and standing up for our rights and freedoms.  “Freedom is not a state; it is an act…Freedom is the continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.”  – Congressman John Lewis

INJUSTICE ANYWHERE IS A THREAT TO JUSTICE EVERYWHERE - Alice Kitchen did not wait for someone else to stand up and speak out about injustice and inequality and neither should we. We try to make it easy to get involved, so this week find an issue of importance to you and DO SOMETHING. Every action no matter how small can make a difference.

WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOU - Thank you for staying informed and engaged each week! Help us spread the word to neighbors, friends, and family by sharing this email and the link to sign up for this weekly Missouri Mondays e-newsletter: https://www.moactionalliance.com/signup.

NOVEMBER -  STATEWIDE ACTION MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

RESPECT MISSOURI VOTERS (Statewide)

WHO WE ARE - Respect Missouri Voters is a grassroots, volunteer-led campaign working to protect the citizen initiative process and make our government work for everyday Missourians. Our goal is straightforward but vital - pass a state constitutional amendment to protect majority rule in Missouri. We need 2,500 volunteers in order to gather signatures.  Join our campaign to pass a ballot initiative for a state constitutional amendment that will BAN politicians from:

  • Overturning initiatives that voters have already passed

  • Attacking citizens' ability to use the initiative process

  • Deceiving voters with confusing ballot language

IMMIGRATION KNOW YOUR RIGHTS TRAINING / VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Advocates for Immigrants Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR) provides “Know Your Rights” training for community members who are directly impacted by immigration policies. No matter where you were born or what your immigration status is, you have rights under the constitution. During this training, we will review people's constitutional rights. AIRR’s goal is to educate, train and empower as many community members as possible to feel confident with their knowledge of their due process rights in order to exercise them to keep themselves and their families safe. This training also offers a plan of action when a person is detained. Additionally, AIRR offers Know Your Rights to allies and service providers on how to better protect the community they serve.

*Find more information about AIRR Know Your Rights training here:  https://airrkc.org/know-your-rights
