Protesters gather with signs celebrating the legacy of activism and civil disobedience, affirming that "Good Trouble" continues to impact change.

Welcome to Missouri Mondays.

Last week’s “Good Trouble Lives On” rally in Kansas City was incredibly moving and inspiring. Our thanks to Denise Lieberman and Lolu with Missouri Voter Protection Coalition for their expert guidance and coordination of events across the state, to our amazing Kansas City event co-leaders—Sarah Starnes with Heartland Alliance for Progress and Jenise Comer with KC Metro Alpha Kappa Alpha, to Indivisible Kansas City, all the partner organizations and their volunteers, and thanks to our community for showing up to honor the life and legacy of John Lewis.

It is up to us to continue John Lewis’ work of “peaceful action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.”

"When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something."

“You must get in the way and find a way to make the way outta no way.”

“We must never give up, never give in. We must keep the faith and keep our eyes on the prize.”

NOW - DONATE TO NPR / PUBLIC TV

“Senate Republicans voted early Thursday to claw back $1.1 billion in funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that lawmakers had already approved for the next two years. The House followed suit late Thursday evening, clearing the cuts to be signed into law ahead of a Friday deadline.

The rare procedural move came at the direction of President Donald Trump, whose combative relationship with the press has only escalated in his second term.

KCUR will lose nearly $1 million in federal funding over the next two years if Trump signs the cuts into law as he is expected to do, said Lisa Rodriguez, the station’s interim director of content.”

““KCPT is also at risk of losing out on a significant source of funding. If the public broadcasting cuts are finalized, the station stands to lose about 9% of its radio budget and 13% of its TV budget, Kuehl said. In anticipation of cuts, the station trimmed its annual operating budget and set aside emergency funds from last fiscal year, Kuehl said. The station is also turning to increased fundraising as it evaluates long-term sustainability, he said.

“It will be very difficult to replace this federal funding. And ultimately it will limit ours and every PBS station’s ability to provide the resources and programming communities count on and will most likely force some smaller rural stations to shut their doors for good,” Kuehl said.”
