06/23/25 Missouri Mondays - “Stand up for what you believe in, especially if that thing is justice and peace.”

Welcome to Missouri Mondays.

The news of Trump’s bombing of Iran has been difficult and unsettling. We have already endured months of chaos and lawlessness, and most recently the horrific shootings in Minnesota and the devastating news that State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were killed.

It is easy to feel despair but we found reason for hope. In a deeply moving statement by the Hortman’s children, they suggested several ways we could honor their parents’ memory:

“Our parents touched so many lives, and they leave behind an incredible legacy of dedication to their community that will live on in us, their friends, their colleagues and co-workers, and every single person who knew and loved them.  If you would like to honor the memory of Mark and Melissa, please consider the following:

  • Plant a tree

  • Visit a local park and make use of their amenities, especially a bike trail.

  • Pet a dog. A golden retriever is ideal, but any will do.

  • Tell your loved ones a cheesy dad joke and laugh about it.

  • Bake something - bread for Mark or a cake for Melissa, and share it with someone.

  • Try a new hobby and enjoy learning something.

  • Stand up for what you believe in, especially if that thing is justice and peace.

That is a beautiful list but just in case we’ve got a few more ideas –

NOW - URGENT STATEWIDE ACTION

TELL MO GOV. KEHOE TO VETO HOUSE BILL 567 OVERTURNING EARNED PAID SICK LEAVE AND MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES!

Join Missouri Workers Center and Missouri Jobs with Justice in demanding Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe veto House Bill 567 and defend the will of the people!

Workers delivered over 210,000 signatures from all 115 counties to put guaranteed earned paid sick days and a minimum wage increase on the November ballot. On Election Day, Proposition A won with 58 percent of the vote — across race, place, and party affiliation.

On May 1, over 700,000 Missouri workers became eligible to accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Unfortunately, the State Legislature prioritized the interests of corporations over our communities, and lawmakers went to extreme lengths to overturn Proposition A, even ending the session early.

We deserve representatives who put working people first. We expect the leaders we have elected to represent our interests by making decisions that allow every Missourian to thrive. That's why we must call on Gov. Kehoe to veto HB 567!

NOW - URGENT NATIONAL RESISTANCE ACTION FROM ANYWHERE

CALL TO ACTION - TELL U.S. SENATORS HAWLEY AND SCHMITT TO VOTE NO ON THE “ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL (BUDGET) BILL”

It will hurt thousands of Missourians and their families.

CALL NOW:

General U.S. Capital: (202) 224-3121

Sen. Josh Hawley: (202) 224-6154

Sen. Eric Schmitt: (202) 224-5721
