"Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that." Martin Luther King Jr. accompanying his thoughtful portrait.

Welcome to Missouri Mondays.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our hearts are with all those affected by the senseless gun violence at Brown University and in Austrialia where families were gathered to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah. We must shine our light in this darkness to fight back against hate, call for action on gun violence and hold our electeds accountable. We have a moral obligation to stand up and speak out when we see something that is not right.  We must act.

We have faced many challenges together this year and your light and support has made all the difference!

THANK YOU!  This is our last Missouri Mondays for 2025 and we cannot express how grateful we are for all you have done to protect democracy this year! We will be back in January when Missouri lawmakers return for the 2026 Legislative Session. We can’t do this work alone so help us spread the word by sharing this email and the link to sign up for our weekly Missouri Mondays e-newsletter: https://www.moactionalliance.com/signup.

PEOPLE NOT POLITICIANS MO CALL TO ACTION

Tell Secy of State Hoskins and Attorney General Hanaway they must follow the MO Constitution! Missourians' voices must be heard. Add your name here: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hoskins-and-hanaway-must-follow-the-mo-constitution

The Missouri Constitution clearly states "any measure referred to the people shall take effect when approved by a majority of the votes cast thereon, and not otherwise." (Article III 52(b))  When Missourians submitted 305,968 signatures to the Missouri Secretary of State to put HB1, politicians' gerrymandered map, to a vote of the people, the map should immediately be paused and not go into effect.

But Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins and Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway don't like following the Missouri Constitution. Unelected AG Hanaway claims the maps have gone into effect, and SOS Hoskins has gone along with her claim that the map has gone into effect on Thursday, December 11.

Tell Hoskins and Hanaway to follow the MO Constitution and let the voters decide! Add your name here: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hoskins-and-hanaway-must-follow-the-mo-constitution

WHO WE ARE - Respect Missouri Voters is a grassroots, volunteer-led campaign working to protect the citizen initiative process and make our government work for everyday Missourians. Our goal is straightforward but vital - pass a state constitutional amendment to protect majority rule in Missouri. We need 2,500 volunteers in order to gather signatures.  Join our campaign to pass a ballot initiative for a state constitutional amendment that will BAN politicians from:

  • Overturning initiatives that voters have already passed

  • Attacking citizens' ability to use the initiative process

  • Deceiving voters with confusing ballot language

IMMIGRATION KNOW YOUR RIGHTS TRAINING / VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Advocates for Immigrants Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR) provides “Know Your Rights” training for community members who are directly impacted by immigration policies. No matter where you were born or what your immigration status is, you have rights under the constitution. During this training, we will review people's constitutional rights. AIRR’s goal is to educate, train and empower as many community members as possible to feel confident with their knowledge of their due process rights in order to exercise them to keep themselves and their families safe. This training also offers a plan of action when a person is detained. Additionally, AIRR offers Know Your Rights to allies and service providers on how to better protect the community they serve.
