12/02/24 Missouri Mondays - Thanks for defending democracy in 2024! Happy Holidays and we will see you in January!

Welcome to Missouri Mondays.

This week lawmakers will begin pre-filing bills for the 2025 legislative session and we expect the GOP’s top priorities to include attacks on the citizens initiative process and majority rule. After the success of Amendment 3 at the ballot box overturning Missouri’s abortion ban, the GOP immediately announced plans to fight it instead of accepting the will of the people. We have unfortunately seen this playbook before with citizens initiatives. After voters passed Medicaid expansion providing thousands with healthcare, the GOP majority did everything they could to try to sabotage it. This is unacceptable and Missourians deserve better.

It’s our last e-newsletter of 2024 but we will return in January ready to resume the fight to protect majority rule and direct democracy through initiative petitions and renew our calls to action for fundamental rights and freedoms under threat.

Thank you for taking action with us and making a difference this year! Take good care of yourselves, keep an eye out for others, and we hope you will find many reasons for happiness this holiday season.

HELP PROVIDE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTHCARE FOR MISSOURIANS!

Support the work of Planned Parenthood Great Rivers PPGR (formerly Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri)

Missouri voters passed Amendment 3, rejecting the state’s total abortion ban and enshrining the right to reproductive freedom — including the right to abortion, birth control, respectful birthing conditions and more — in the state constitution. Planned Parenthood Great Rivers (PPGR) Action organizers spent months embedded with the Yes on 3 campaign, working to both win the right to reproductive freedom and build long-term power by connecting with everyday Missourians across the state. Voters sent a clear message to the anti-abortion politicians in Jefferson City: Get out of our exam rooms, and leave personal health care decisions to patients and their providers. PPGR Action is committed to defending Missourians’ new right to reproductive freedom — but we can’t do it without you: Will you make a gift today?
