“As the Show-Me State joins the mid-decade gerrymandering war following prodding by President Donald Trump, Republican leaders quickly framed the effort as a godly mission. Yet, their proposed map seeks to flip the seat of U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a longtime Democratic congressman who is also a United Methodist minister.
In announcing a special legislative session to redraw congressional lines, Gov. Mike Kehoe insisted the change would represent Missouri’s “common sense values, rooted in faith, family, and freedom.” Similarly, Senate President Pro Tem Cindy O’Laughlin claimed Kehoe “wants to be sure Missouri’s representation matches Missouri’s Christian conservative majority.”
“If Kehoe and O’Laughlin were honest, they would admit the inspiration for this partisan gerrymandering came not from Christian values but Trump. While they appear to hold enough political power to ram the new map through, they do not own the terms “faith” and “Christian.” I will not sit by quietly as they seek to rig morality.”

Indeed, Gov. Kehoe called lawmakers into special session for two MO GOP priorities – follow Trump’s demands to gerrymander MO Congressional maps, and gut the citizen’s initiative petition (IP). Witness testimony for House public hearings was overwhelmingly against these measures, but both were passed out of committee. It’s clear Gov. Kehoe and his GOP supermajority think they can ignore us while they slice and dice our communities to pick their voters and sabotage initiative petitions and majority rule.
We the People will be bringing them a message on Sept 10. Let’s fill the Capitol to fight Trump’s illegal power grab and protect IP and direct democracy! Governor Kehoe has called for a special session to redraw Missouri’s U.S. House districts ahead of the 2026 elections as President Trump demanded. “Missouri has eight congressional districts, and Democrats hold two”. Kehoe’s new “power grab” map “would split Kansas City, which is currently entirely in the 5th District and represented by 11-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, into three districts where Republicans would have an electoral edge. The intended result is a map where the GOP holds 90% of the state’s seats in the U.S. House.” (Missouri Independent Aug 29) Voters should be choosing their politicians, not the other way around! Tell them NO TO TRUMP’S POWER GRAB!

Advocates for Immigrants Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR) provides “Know Your Rights” training for community members who are directly impacted by immigration policies. No matter where you were born or what your immigration status is, you have rights under the constitution. During this training, we will review people's constitutional rights. AIRR’s goal is to educate, train and empower as many community members as possible to feel confident with their knowledge of their due process rights in order to exercise them to keep themselves and their families safe. This training also offers a plan of action when a person is detained. Additionally, AIRR offers Know Your Rights to allies and service providers on how to better protect the community they serve.
