06/30/25 Missouri Mondays - “This is a moral moment for our country. We must raise our voices together.”

Welcome to Missouri Mondays.
U.S. Senate Republicans are now rewriting portions of H.R. 1 The “One Big Beautiful (Budget) Bill” to satisfy strict Senate parliamentarian rules while also maintaining the House’s partisan wish list framework. The bill is almost 1,000 pages, gives tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans, adds $trillions to the national deficit, includes devastating cuts to programs for low-income families gutting Medicaid health coverage and SNAP food assistance benefits. The Republican Tax Scam would kick more than 250,000 Missourians off their health care and gut SNAP for more than 246,000 Missouri households. It also diverts billions in taxes to private schools robbing our public schools of funding. Nearly 148,000 Missouri kids could lose access to free school meals.
One by one last night on the Senate floor Democrats exposed the despicable cruelty of this Republican budget giving tax breaks to billionaires on the backs of our most vulnerable. Sen. Raphael Warnock said, “I rise tonight in a moral moment in our nation. As we debate this bill, so much is on the line. The healthcare of 16 million Americans, 750,000 of them Georgians, is on the line. Food for hungry children in a wealthy nation where 1 in 5 children are already food insecure. They don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Their livelihood, their welfare is on the line. The well being of seniors in nursing homes and the disabled who rely on Medicaid and those who care for them is on the line. Rural hospitals in Georgia, in Alaska, in Louisiana and little towns all over this nation that are right now barely hanging on is on the line, and the scraps that they are throwing them while cutting them will not save them. And my friends on the other side of the aisle know it. They know that these scraps that they’re throwing at rural hospitals will not save them. And so in a very real sense, lives are on the line.” You can listen to Sen. Warnock’s full remarks here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYzMqBGHEiQ

NOW - URGENT STATEWIDE ACTION
TELL MO GOV. KEHOE TO VETO HOUSE BILL 567 OVERTURNING EARNED PAID SICK LEAVE AND MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES!
Email Gov. Kehoe here: https://secure.everyaction.com/5ATGn8k_5k-pTURUvEKt6g2
Join Missouri Workers Center and Missouri Jobs with Justice in demanding Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe veto House Bill 567 and defend the will of the people!
Workers delivered over 210,000 signatures from all 115 counties to put guaranteed earned paid sick days and a minimum wage increase on the November ballot. On Election Day, Proposition A won with 58 percent of the vote — across race, place, and party affiliation.
On May 1, over 700,000 Missouri workers became eligible to accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Unfortunately, the State Legislature prioritized the interests of corporations over our communities, and lawmakers went to extreme lengths to overturn Proposition A, even ending the session early.
We deserve representatives who put working people first. We expect the leaders we have elected to represent our interests by making decisions that allow every Missourian to thrive. That's why we must call on Gov. Kehoe to veto HB 567!
