06/05/23 Missouri Mondays - June is Pride Month! Honor and Celebrate LGBTQI+ / Voter Resources ...
for the June 20 Municipal Election / News, events and more!
Welcome to another Missouri Mondays! June is Pride month celebrated to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York, recognizing “the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.” The Biden-Harris Administration recently issued a proclamation reaffirming LGBTQ+ support and commitment. “During Pride Month, we honor a movement that has grown stronger, more vibrant, and more inclusive with every passing year. Pride is a celebration of generations of LGBTQI+ people who have fought bravely to live openly and authentically. And it is a reminder that we still have generational work to do to ensure that everyone enjoys the full promise of equity, dignity, protection, and freedom.”
We’ve listed several Pride month events in the KC metro as well as important dates and voter resources below for the upcoming June 20 municipal election. No excuse in person absentee voting begins THIS TUESDAY JUNE 6! Also find links below to replay recordings of KCMO candidate forums hosted by the League of Women Voters KC.
Thanks for staying informed and participating in our democracy! Help us spread the word to others and also share our link to sign up for Missouri Mondays: https://www.moactionalliance.com/signup.

JUNE IS PRIDE MONTH!
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In the United States the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as "Gay Pride Day," but the actual day was flexible. In major cities across the nation the "day" soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBTQ Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
