Welcome to Missouri Mondays!

When our rights and freedoms are under attack, what do we do?

STAND UP! FIGHT BACK!

In this FINAL week of MOLeg, TAKE ACTION! to protect direct democracy through the initiative petition process, abortion rights, worker rights, LGBTQ rights, and more!

We also want to say “Thank you!” to Congressman Emanuel Cleaver for rallying in Kansas City over the weekend for federal worker unions under attack by Trump and Musk.

“The Trump administration and Elon Musk have treated our federal workforce like a disposable expense, rather than the backbone of a functioning democracy,” said Congressman Cleaver.” “Slashing jobs, hollowing out agencies, and undermining public service isn’t reform – it’s sabotage,” Cleaver said. “I’m proud to stand with the unions representing the men and women who keep this country running. Today’s gathering is a line in the sand. We’re standing with the workers who’ve been silenced, sidelined, and scapegoated – and we won’t let billionaires hollow out public service under the guise of efficiency without a fight.”   KCTV5 May 10

LAST WEEK OF SESSION! CALL TO ACTION GUIDE FROM LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS KC - MAY 11

URGING ACTION ON ONE OR MORE BILLS!

  • Oppose SCS SJRs 47, 30, & 10 - (Senate Bill) - Would require passage of initiative petitions proposing a constitutional amendment upon the majority of vote of both a statewide majority and a majority of state House districts. Includes “ballot candy” which unnecessarily restricts foreign involvement. The MO Constitution already prohibits contributions from foreign sources. Currently measures must pass by a statewide majority which fairly reflects the will of ALL Missourians.  Requirements to have a constitutional amendment pass by both a statewide majority and a majority of state representative districts will create a rule by minority, undermining the will of all Missourians. Tell your State Senator to OPPOSE this bill!

  • Oppose HJR 54 - (House Bill) - This revised version of HJR 54 does not overturn voter approved Amendment 3, but instead applies government interest in all reproductive health care to allow regulations reinstating TRAP (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) laws as well as other legislation. Missourians voted for Amendment 3 allowing abortion up to fetal viability.  HJR 54 intrudes into a woman’s private and personal medical decision-making with her health care providers by declaring those decisions a “government interest”. Imposes government rules on the people that will ultimately ban abortion, against the will of Missouri citizens. Tell your State Representative to OPPOSE this bill!

  • Oppose HCS HJR 73 - (House bill now in the Senate) - 73, which would prohibit abortion, and being heavily pushed by pro-life advocates would eliminate most of Amendment 3 approved by voters last year. Proposes a Constitutional Amendment that would prohibit abortion except in cases of medical emergency, rape or incest, no later than 12 weeks gestational age.  Also contains possible prosecution of medical professionals and “ballot candy” language regarding gender transition. Repeals Amendment 3 / the Right to Reproductive Freedom Initiative approved by voters last Nov. Tell your State Senator to OPPOSE this bill!

  • Oppose HCS#2 HBS 567, 546, 758 & 958 - (House bill now in the Senate) - Modifies schedule of minimum wage increases and provisions related to paid sick leave as approved by voters in November with Proposition A. Repeals the provisions of Proposition A that took effect May 1, 2025, repeals the schedule of min wage increases or decreases scheduled for Jan 1, 2027 and January 1 of successive years, repeals provisions of paid sick leave requirements, contains an emergency clause for the provisions that are being repealed for paid sick leave. Tell your State Senator to OPPOSE this bill!

  • Oppose SB 100 - (Senate Bill) - Prohibits amending a birth certificate of an individual where that person’s chooses to identify as a gender different than the birth certificate designation, and further prohibits the amendment of any certificate of birth related to the person’s gender if the gender of the individual was changed for reasons other than a medically-verifiable disorder.  Tell your State Senator to OPPOSE this bill!

Jefferson City, MO  65101

Prop A is under attack! This is the final week of the Missouri legislative session and there is a serious threat of total repeal of workers' earned paid sick time and the annual minimum wage increase that ensures that workers' wages go up with the cost of living. Can you join us in Jefferson City to demand our legislators respect the will of the 1.6 million voters who believe that no one should have to go to work sick? We’ll meet on the South Steps of the Capitol at 11:30AM for a rally and press conference! Then we'll head into the Capitol together to talk to lawmakers and keep watch in the Senate gallery. We hope to see you there because the power of the people is greater than the people in power!
