It's been a hard year for a lot of Missourians -- from rising grocery costs and electricity bills to uncertainty about healthcare access and threats to basic community goods, like public education. Our state budget should support regular Missourians -- funding our schools, roads, and senior services. But some politicians in Jefferson City are gutting the state budget to make the rich richer at the expense of the rest of us. Last year, these politicians prioritized overturning voter-approved paid sick days, and abortion access, instead passing unprecedented tax cuts for the wealthy, and gerrymandered congressional maps and an attack on citizens initiatives to rig the rules in their favor.
‼️Now these same politicians are trying to eliminate the state income tax to give even MORE tax breaks to the wealthy, forcing the rest of us to bear the burden in higher 💲SALES taxes -- and higher costs, and creating an existential crisis for funding our schools, roads, and senior services.
‼️But what we DO NEXT could change what happens next.
✔️Join us 6:30-7:30pm (with an optional organizing breakout 7:30-8pm) for an emergency community townhall to learn what's on the line and what we can do about it. Childcare, Spanish language translation, and family dinner at 6:00 avaiable with RSVP.

✔️ Here in Missouri, we show up for each other, no matter what we look like, who we love, or how much is in our wallets. But certain politicians have shown us that they care more about corporate welfare than the welfare of the people.
❌ Last year, politicians like Gov. Kehoe and House Speaker Jon Patterson stole away our paid sick days, forced another tricky ballot to ban abortion all over again and undo our votes from 2024, froze the minimum wage, tried to dismantle the People's Initiative Petition process, gerrymandered our congressional districts to silence Black, Brown, and working class voters, and have been doubling down on their attacks on trans and gender expansive young people.
❌ Now they want to hike up 💲taxes on working families so the elite minority can get even richer at the expense of the everyday services we need to make a good living.
‼️WE ARE WORTH MORE.
✔️Join us for an emergency legislative town hall in March. Together — regardless of races, genders, or backgrounds — we will demand a state budget that respects the will of the people, invests in our futures, and makes the welfare of the people the supreme law.

🚨NO TAX HIKES!
📣Tell your MO State Senator to VOTE NO on HCS HJRs 173 & 174!
🔎Find your legislator here: https://www.senate.mo.gov/LegisLookup/Default
Last week the MO House passed HCS HJRs 173 & 174 and now it will go to the MO Senate. “Upon voter approval of HCS HJRs 173 & 174, if under current law, income tax rate falls below 1.4%, state income tax will be eliminated by 2031, and sales tax may be increased/expanded to make up for the income deficit.”
🚩The proposal is to phase out the state’s individual income tax and replace the revenue by expanding the sales tax base.
🗳️Voter Approval Required: If passed by the legislature, the plan would go before voters on the August or November 2026 ballot.
🚩Gradual Phase-Out: The individual income tax (currently 4.7%) would be reduced based on revenue "triggers".
🚩The rate would drop by 0.01 percentage points for every $20 million increase in net general revenue over the 2025 base year.
🚩The tax would be fully eliminated once the rate falls below 1.4%, with a target end date as early as January 1, 2032.
‼️ Expanded Sales Tax: To offset the loss of income tax revenue, lawmakers would be authorized to tax more services and digital goods (e.g., streaming services, accounting fees) that are currently exempt.
❌Raising revenue by sales tax is a regressive tax because it burdens those with less income equally to the burden on those more able to pay
❌ Life will be more $$expensive for nearly ALL Missourians

WHO WE ARE - Respect Missouri Voters is a grassroots, volunteer-led campaign working to protect the citizen initiative process and make our government work for everyday Missourians. Our goal is straightforward but vital - pass a state constitutional amendment to protect majority rule in Missouri. Overturning initiatives that voters have already passed
Attacking citizens' ability to use the initiative process
Deceiving voters with confusing ballot language

🚨TELL SEN. HAWLEY & SEN. SCHMITT - VOTE NO ON THE NEW S.A.V.E. ACT!
☎️ Phone: (833-346-1779)
🔥The new S.A.V.E. Act already passed the U.S. House and is now in the Senate. This law could keep millions from voting!
If passed, the new S.A.V.E. Act would:
❌Require Americans to provide documentary proof of citizenship - either a passport or an original copy of their birth certificate - when registering to vote, and any time they update their voter registration. More than 21 Million American citizens don't have access to those documents.
❌ Especially burden military voters, tribal voters, rural voters, survivors of natural disasters, communities of color, and married women who have changed their last names.
