Welcome to Missouri Mondays!

**Join Missouri Voter Protection Coalition (MOVPC) meeting online TODAY at 10am. Register HERE bit.ly/protectmovoters. We’ll discuss last week’s fantastic Lobby Day, hear updates on MOVPC legal challenges and voting rights bills moving thru MOLeg, and also discuss the dangerous new S.A.V.E. Act with the Brennan Center for Justice.

**Make your voice heard! There’s a good chance that at least one bill moving through the MOLeg this week, if passed, could affect your life or the lives of those you care about. This week a small sampling includes multiple voting rights bills, attacks (no surprise) on citizens initiatives, a bill eliminating state sales taxes on food, budget cuts to programs that serve seniors and our most vulnerable disabled neighbors.  Take action on one or more bills with the League of Women Voters MO, MOVPC MOLeg Action Alert and also see additional calls to action below.

**No one can do everything, but we can all do something! We do our best to make it super easy to take action. Help us spread the word by sharing this email and the link to sign up for our weekly Missouri Mondays e-newsletter: https://www.moactionalliance.com/signup.

TUES FEB 10 - STATEWIDE (ONLINE) - JEFFERSON CITY (IN PERSON)

TELL MO HOUSE LAWMAKERS VOTERS DESERVE CLEAR AND UNBIASED BALLOT MEASURE SUMMARIES! VOTE NO ON HOUSE BILL HB3146 “POLITICIANS’ RIGHT TO LIE ACT”

HB3146, the “Politicians' Right to Lie Act”, is the GOP’s latest attack on the citizens initiative by allowing the Secretary of State to purposely slow down the process and also trick voters with unfair and dishonest ballot language. Recently, the MO Supreme Court unanimously struck down as unconstitutional a similar law, SB22, passed in 2025. Voters deserve fair ballot summaries with clear and unbiased language explaining what they’re voting on. HB3146 is just another attempt by the GOP majority to sabotage the initiative petition (IP) process and allow politicians to lie and trick voters.  The Missouri House Elections Committee will hold a public hearing on House Bill HB3146 on Tuesday, February 10 at 8AM. Tell House lawmakers to vote NO on HB3146!

Per the Governor’s proposal HB 10 - HB 2010 would cut the budgets of Self-Directed Services, Consumer Directed Services, and Day Habilitation. The cuts included in House Bill HB 10 - HB 2010 would have serious, real-life consequences for some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Your story matters and lawmakers need to hear it!

TUES FEB 10 - NATIONAL CALL TO ACTION!

TELL YOUR MEMBER OF CONGRESS TO VOTE NO ON THE NEW S.A.V.E. ACT!

Phone: (833-346-1779)

Congress is set to hear the new S.A.V.E. Act on Tuesday, February 10. This law could keep millions from voting!

If passed, the new S.A.V.E. Act would:

  • Require Americans to provide documentary proof of citizenship - either a passport or an original copy of their birth certificate - when registering to vote, and anytime they update their voter registration. More than 21 Million American citizens don't have access to those documents.

  • Especially burden military voters, tribal voters, rural voters, survivors of natural disasters, communities of color, and married women who have changed their last names.

“New SAVE Act Bills Would Still Block Millions of Americans From Voting - The “show your papers” requirement is an attack on the freedom to vote.”

NOW - STATEWIDE

PEOPLE NOT POLITICIANS MO

CALL TO ACTION ON GERRYMANDERED MAPS!

Tell Secy of State Hoskins and Attorney General Hanaway they must follow the MO Constitution! Missourians' voices must be heard.

The Missouri Constitution clearly states "any measure referred to the people shall take effect when approved by a majority of the votes cast thereon, and not otherwise." (Article III 52(b))  When Missourians submitted 305,968 signatures to the Missouri Secretary of State to put HB1, politicians' gerrymandered map, to a vote of the people, the map should immediately be paused and not go into effect. But Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins and Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway don't like following the Missouri Constitution. Unelected AG Hanaway claims the maps have gone into effect, and SOS Hoskins has gone along with her claim that the map has gone into effect on Thursday, December 11.

Tell Hoskins and Hanaway to follow the MO Constitution and let voters decide!  Add your name here:  https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hoskins-and-hanaway-must-follow-the-mo-constitution
