01/22/24 Missouri Mondays - All hands on deck! Join the effort to put abortion rights on the ballot! / Voter resources for new Presidential selection process / Urgent action needed on MO legislation

Welcome to Missouri Mondays!

Last week Missourians for Constitutional Freedom announced they are putting abortion rights on the ballot! The statewide coalition of organizations launched a campaign to restore freedom for all Missourians to make their own healthcare decisions  – including abortion, birth control, and miscarriage care – without interference from out-of-touch politicians. Nearly two years since the Supreme Court took away our rights, they are launching the campaign to end Missouri’s extreme abortion ban.

It’s a 911 call for all hands on deck! There’s SO MUCH at stake for our state and our country and we cannot afford to sit on the sidelines. Each week we will continue to provide resources, upcoming events and ways to get involved that we hope you will find meaningful. Thank you for staying informed, taking action, and helping to spread the word by sharing this link to sign up for Missouri Mondays weekly email bit.ly/3pF99Uw.

Join our next MOVPC call where we will discuss the necessary steps in our fight to protect the right to vote in Missouri. MOVPC is a nonpartisan statewide network promoting access to the ballot and working to remove barriers to voting in Missouri! Register here!

JOIN THE EFFORT TO PUT ABORTION RIGHTS ON THE BALLOT!

Missourians for Constitutional Freedom is a statewide coalition of organizations and concerned citizens from across the state working to establish the right for all Missourians to make decisions about our own reproductive health care – including abortion, birth control, and miscarriage care – without interference from out-of-touch politicians.

The decision of whether or not to have an abortion is a personal choice that should be made by Missourians, their families, and their health care providers – not politicians in Jefferson City. Passing this amendment will end our state’s abortion ban and make sure Missourians and their families can once again make the decisions that are best for them. Decisions around pregnancy, including abortion, birth control, and miscarriage care are personal and private and should be left up to patients and their families. But here in Missouri, politicians are making that decision for us.

We are coming together to end Missouri’s cruel total ban on abortion and give the power to make personal health care decisions back to where it belongs – to the people.

We are required to collect 172,000 valid signatures by May 5th, 2024, to ensure Missourians get to vote on ending our cruel abortion ban at the ballot. Your support is crucial to make this initiative a reality.

IMPORTANT MISSOURI VOTER INFORMATION FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL SELECTION PROCESS!

Many Missouri voters don't know that in 2022 the General Assembly passed legislation eliminating the state’s March presidential primary and turned the process over to the political parties.

The League of Women Voters of Missouri hosted an informational webinar last week on changes in Missouri's presidential selection process. Chris Grahn-Howard shared information on the GOP's March 2 caucus and Missouri Democratic Party (MDP) Executive Director Matthew Patterson shared the latest on its March 23 election.

GOP:

A Republican caucus on March 2 will be similar to how Iowa selects delegates. Neither party affiliation nor registration are required, but participants must be registered to vote.

DEMOCRATS:

The Democratic presidential primary on March 23 will be a hybrid election, offering Missouri Democrats an opportunity to cast their vote by mail or at an in-person voting site from 8 AM until noon on the day of the primary. Participants must be registered to vote and can’t be registered with another party.

ATTENTION!  Voters registered as Democrats by TODAY January 22, 2024, will automatically receive their ballot in the mail.  If you miss the deadline you can request a ballot via the Missouri Democratic Party (MDP) website here: https://www.missouridemocrats.org
