Last week ICE agent Jonathan Ross senselessly murdered Renee Good on a neighborhood street in Minneapolis. The President and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem immediately made false public statements about what happened, smearing her name and labelling her a domestic terrorist. We cannot let them lie and use ICE to terrorize our cities and intimidate us into silence We must speak out against government lies, tell our elected officials we want ICE out of our communities, and continue to look for ways to help our immigrant neighbors and look out for one another.

This week let’s make some “GoodTrouble” and honor Renee and all ICE victims with acts of courage and kindness. Action is power and together we can make a better Missouri and world for all.

HB2302 - Bill sponsor Rep. Philip Oehlerking

  • Requires Dept of Corrections to coordinate with Dept of Revenue to provide a state ID to inmates without a current Missouri ID

  • Nine months prior to an inmate's release from custody, the Department of Corrections will determine whether the inmate has a current state ID and, if not, begin gathering the required documentation to receive one. A certified birth certificate and a Department of Corrections-issued record card will be valid identification documentation for an inmate to obtain a state ID.

  • State-issued ID cards issued with a record card from the Department of Corrections must be valid for a period of four years and are nonrenewable and nontransferable. The Department of Corrections can utilize any funds to cover the purchase of ID cards, including but not limited to, inmate trust funds, existing funds of the Department, and donations. The Department must provide an inmate with the types of documentation specified in the bill to assist in post-release employment.

Missouri Voter Protection Coalition (MOVPC) Action Position: Support.

As part of the Missouri ID Access Coalition, MOVPC Action supports this measure, which will also help ensure that returning citizens have acceptable ID needed to vote. Returning citizens are among the populations least likely to have a valid state ID and face barriers to obtaining one.

STAND UP FIGHT BACK DAY OF ACTION

Wednesday, Jan 21

11am-2pm

Missouri Capitol Building

Jefferson City, MO

In Missouri, our freedoms belong to all of us — no matter our race, income, or who we love. Our elected officials work for us, not the other way around. But politicians in Jefferson City are trying to divide us so they can get away with stealing our paid sick days, our right to an abortion, and our votes. We’re sending a clear message: working people deserve better — and we’re done playing defense. We voted for paid sick time, abortion access, and fair maps, but politicians tried to silence us. Now it’s time to make them listen. On January 21, we’re standing up and fighting back to make the welfare of the people the supreme law. Hosted by Missouri Jobs with Justice, Promo Missouri, Missouri Workers Center

NOW - STATEWIDE

PEOPLE NOT POLITICIANS MO CALL TO ACTION ON GERRYMANDERED MAPS!

Tell Secy of State Hoskins and Attorney General Hanaway they must follow the MO Constitution! Missourians' voices must be heard. Add your name here:https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hoskins-and-hanaway-must-follow-the-mo-constitution

The Missouri Constitution clearly states "any measure referred to the people shall take effect when approved by a majority of the votes cast thereon, and not otherwise." (Article III 52(b)) When Missourians submitted 305,968 signatures to the Missouri Secretary of State to put HB1, politicians' gerrymandered map, to a vote of the people, the map should immediately be paused and not go into effect.

But Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins and Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway don't like following the Missouri Constitution. Unelected AG Hanaway claims the maps have gone into effect, and SOS Hoskins has gone along with her claim that the map has gone into effect on Thursday, December 11.

TELL HOSKINS AND HANAWAY TO FOLLOW THE MO CONSTITUTION AND LET VOTERS DECIDE! Add your name here: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hoskins-and-hanaway-must-follow-the-mo-constitution

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HONOR RENEE GOOD AND ALL ICE VICTIMS

American Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman posted on Facebook:

“On January 7th, 2026, ICE agents murdered Renee Nicole Good by shooting her in the head through her car window. She was a poet and writer, a wife, and a mother of three. Like many, I am horrified by the ongoing violence that ICE wages upon our community. Across our country, we are witnessing discrimination and brutality on an unconscionable scale. We remember and mourn not only Renee, but all those ICE has killed, including Silverio Villegas Gonzalez and Keith Porter, who were also shot by ICE. We also remember the 32 individuals who died in ICE custody last year, with 2025 marking the deadliest year in ICE’s history in over two decades.

I encourage you to donate to my fundraiser for @ACLUMN who are currently engaged in legal action against ICE - https://www.aclu-mn.org/

Help support immigrants in the KC Metro

Advocates for Immigrants Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR) provides “Know Your Rights” training for community members who are directly impacted by immigration policies. No matter where you were born or what your immigration status is, you have rights under the constitution. During this training, we will review people's constitutional rights. AIRR’s goal is to educate, train and empower as many community members as possible to feel confident with their knowledge of their due process rights in order to exercise them to keep themselves and their families safe. This training also offers a plan of action when a person is detained. Additionally, AIRR offers Know Your Rights to allies and service providers on how to better protect the community they serve.

Renee’s wife, Becca Good, “expressed gratitude for the wave of support and called for honoring Macklin Good by living her values and coming together “to build a world where we all come home safe to the people we love.”

“The kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute because if you ever encountered my wife, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, you know that above all else, she was kind,” Becca Good said. “In fact, kindness radiated out of her.”

“Renee lived by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world and we need to do everything we can to find it where it resides and nurture it where it needs to grow. Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole.”
