Welcome to the first Missouri Mondays of 2026.
The President’s bombing of Venezuela and abduction of President Maduro and his wife shocked the nation and the world. Several Missouri Republicans including U.S. Reps. Mark Alford and Ann Wagner, and U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt praised the President and expressed support for the invasion and capture of President Maduro. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II issued the following statement, “The president’s reckless decision to put our servicemembers in harm’s way by attacking a sovereign nation without a coherent rationale or approval from Congress is unconstitutional, destabilizing to the region, and deeply damaging to America’s reputation around the world.”
“While there is not a single individual who will defend the actions of a murderous and illegitimate dictator in Nicolas Maduro, the use of military force to enact regime change in a foreign nation has proven disastrous to our national security and economic interests in recent history. Moreover, such shortsighted decision-making will only embolden despots around the world, giving tyrants in Russia and China an excuse to utilize their own military forces to depose leaders with whom they disagree.
“Whether it was the illegal strikes in Iran, Nigeria, or off the coast of South America, there is no question that this careless decision is the culmination of Congressional Republican refusal to hold the Executive Branch accountable and maintain the checks and balances that are essential to strategic and well-informed foreign policy. Now, because of this dereliction of duty, the president claims our troops and tax dollars will ‘run’ Venezuela ‘until such time as a proper transition can take place’.
“As Congress returns to Washington, the administration must immediately brief the people’s elected representatives about the legal justifications of this attack, the short-term risks to our troops and civilians, and the long-term strategy to ensure the situation in Venezuela does not result in another quagmire that the American people do not support and cannot afford.”
The President’s illegal war with Venezuela will be costly and will not help Americans struggling to put food on the table nor will it help those losing access to healthcare due to skyrocketing premiums without ACA subsidies.
Missouri lawmakers return to Jefferson City this week for the start of the 2026 Legislative Session. We celebrate the hard fought victory of the $15.00 minimum wage increase starting January 1, but workers have been cruelly denied the earned paid sick leave voters approved because the GOP majority repealed it. Last session the GOP also passed a deceitful abortion ban measure that will be on the ballot later this year. Right now they are fighting in court to stop MO voters from having a say on the rigged Congressional district maps ordered by the President, despite petition gatherers turning in over 305,000 signatures for a citizens referendum.
We cannot stay silent while they do nothing to try to make our lives better, focus their time and efforts on rigging the system against us, ignore and overturn our votes, and disregard the Constitution and rule of law. We must hold our electeds accountable and help elect their replacements when necessary.

PEOPLE NOT POLITICIANS MO CALL TO ACTION ON GERRYMANDERED MAPS!
Tell Secy of State Hoskins and Attorney General Hanaway they must follow the MO Constitution! Missourians' voices must be heard. Add your name here: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hoskins-and-hanaway-must-follow-the-mo-constitution
The Missouri Constitution clearly states "any measure referred to the people shall take effect when approved by a majority of the votes cast thereon, and not otherwise." (Article III 52(b)) When Missourians submitted 305,968 signatures to the Missouri Secretary of State to put HB1, politicians' gerrymandered map, to a vote of the people, the map should immediately be paused and not go into effect.
But Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins and Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway don't like following the Missouri Constitution. Unelected AG Hanaway claims the maps have gone into effect, and SOS Hoskins has gone along with her claim that the map has gone into effect on Thursday, December 11.
Tell Hoskins and Hanaway to follow the MO Constitution and let the voters decide! Add your name here: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hoskins-and-hanaway-must-follow-the-mo-constitution

IMMIGRATION KNOW YOUR RIGHTS TRAINING / VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Advocates for Immigrants Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR) provides “Know Your Rights” training for community members who are directly impacted by immigration policies. No matter where you were born or what your immigration status is, you have rights under the constitution. During this training, we will review people's constitutional rights. AIRR’s goal is to educate, train and empower as many community members as possible to feel confident with their knowledge of their due process rights in order to exercise them to keep themselves and their families safe. This training also offers a plan of action when a person is detained. Additionally, AIRR offers Know Your Rights to allies and service providers on how to better protect the community they serve.
