🚨TAKE ACTION!

📣 TELL YOUR STATE SENATOR NO SALES TAXES ON EVERYTHING!

VOTE NO! on HCS HJRs 173 & 174!

🔎Find your legislator here:  https://www.senate.mo.gov/LegisLookup/Default

The MO House passed HCS HJRs 173 & 174 and now it is in the MO Senate.

  • H.J.R.s 173 & 174 would replace Missouri’s income tax with a vastly expanded sales tax on goods and services e.g., streaming services, accounting fees that are currently exempt.

  • Experts project this would increase total taxes for 60-80% of Missourians, disproportionately hitting middle and lower-income families and seniors as well as veterans. The measure does not define which services would be subject to the sales tax, meaning all services – including rent, health care, and mortgages – could be subject to the tax.

  • Missouri currently collects about $9 billion in individual income taxes, which makes up nearly two thirds of the state’s budget. The sales taxes needed to replace those funds would impact lowest-income residents and force state and local governments to cut programs or raise taxes themselves.

  • Missouri already faces a multi-billion dollar budget deficit resulting from previous tax cuts.

  • Voter Approval Required: If passed by the legislature, the plan would go before voters on the August or November 2026 ballot.

📣 TAKE ACTION! Tell Denny Hoskins to Certify our Referendum!

Preliminary data from the Missouri Secretary of State's office confirms that a sufficient number of signatures were collected, in every required congressional district, to put the People Not Politicians referendum on the November ballot.  Secretary of State Denny Hoskins knows we have the signatures to qualify. Precedent shows that once a referendum or petition has reached the required number of verified signatures in each of the required districts, the SOS immediately certifies it. Hoskins is trying to find ways to delay our referendum. But his delays aren't protocol, he's playing a political game. Missouri voters will have the final say on politicians' gerrymandered congressional district map whether Hoskins likes it or not.

>>>>>

✍️ TAKE ACTION! Write a Letter to the Editor to speak out about your right to a citizen’s referendum on the gerrymandered maps!

Email Jamie Johnson for more information: jamie@peoplenotpoliticiansmo.org

For more than 100 years and 27 different times, Missouri has upheld a clear and fundamental principle: the people have the constitutional right to directly shape our laws through the referendum process. This power exists to ensure that when the government overreaches, Missourians still have a meaningful way to be heard. But, politicians are attempting to silence our voices and override the clear will of the people – forcing us to vote in rigged elections that we said we don’t want.

🪧 TAKE ACTION! Show up in solidarity against racist gerrymandered maps!

Don’t Count Us Out Rally!

Hosted by Metro Organization for Racial and Economic Equity - MORE2

Monday April 20

Kansas City, MO 64110

Missouri Action Alliance is proud to join More2 and faith and community leaders on Monday April 20 in solidarity and to send a clear message to Missouri politicians “Don’t Count Us Out!” with gerrymandered congressional maps breaking up Kansas City along Troost Ave., a historic racial dividing line. We hope to see you there!

📅  SAVE THE DATE!

People Not Politicians MO

Let Us Vote! Rally

Tuesday, May 12

10AM

Outside the MO Supreme Court

207 West High Street

Jefferson City, MO 65101

Missourians did what the law requires. We organized, gathered signatures, and exercised our constitutional right to a referendum by turning in 305,000+ signatures in December 2025.  Since then, politicians have continued to push forward this gerrymandered map as if the people have no power, advancing decisions while the referendum process is still underway.  On May 12th, as "Maggard v. State of Missouri" is heard before the Missouri Supreme Court, we’re coming together to show just how much this moment matters.  This rally is about visibility and clarity. The courts are considering questions that go to the heart of our state’s constitution and the referendum process. We need to show up, stand together, and make it clear that Missourians are paying attention and know our constitutional right to a fair path to the ballot.

📣 RESPECT MISSOURI VOTERS

WHO WE ARE - Respect Missouri Voters is a grassroots, volunteer-led campaign working to protect the citizen initiative process and make our government work for everyday Missourians. Our goal is straightforward but vital - pass a state constitutional amendment to protect majority rule in Missouri.  Join our campaign to pass a ballot initiative for a state constitutional amendment that will BAN politicians from:

  • ❌ Overturning initiatives that voters have already passed

  • ❌ Attacking citizens' ability to use the initiative process

  • ❌ Deceiving voters with confusing ballot language

📅  The Missouri Secretary of State’s MAY 3 petition turn-in deadline is fixed. To ensure every signature is vetted, our internal deadline for signatures is April 19th. WE HAVE LESS THAN 1 WEEK LEFT!

‼️ If this initiative matters to you, we need you to gather signatures. If we don't hit our targets, the work of thousands of volunteers and the rights of millions of Missourians are put at risk. We are counting on you to take two steps this week:
