11/18/19 - Missouri Mondays - Tell Senators Blunt and Hawley to hold the President accountable!

“Well, she’s going to go through some things.”

These are words from records made public by President Trump during his phone call with Ukraine’s newly elected President Zelensky on July 25, 2019, in reference to former US Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch.

Last week public testimony began in the historic impeachment inquiry into President Trump. We heard from distinguished US diplomats who have served our country honorably for decades including Ambassador Yovanovitch. She testified that she was abruptly recalled from her post in Ukraine without explanation and warned to leave the country immediately over threats to her security after a smear campaign by the President, Donald Trump Jr., the President's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, his associates and others apparently running a shadow foreign policy scheme in Ukraine for the President’s own personal political interests. In a stunning moment during Amb. Yovanovitch’s testimony the President sent a disparaging Tweet, and when asked how his attacks on her might affect other witnesses she replied "It's very intimidating. I can't speak as to what the president is trying to do but I think the effect is to be very intimidating." NBC News Nov 15 2019

There are more witnesses scheduled to testify this week but the President’s own words and actions make it clear he has abused his power, obstructed justice, and is a threat to our national security!

We must keep up the pressure on Senators Blunt and Hawley to hold this President accountable for violating his oath of office including:

  • Putting our country’s national security at risk for his personal interests and political benefit for the 2020 election

  • Running a shadow foreign policy to pressure Ukraine for his personal political interests sending a clear message to authoritarians and forces opposed to the rule of law around the world that as long as Trump is President they can easily remove diplomats for carrying out US policy and fighting corruption

  • Undermining our State Department diplomats and their staff serving our country's interests and leaving them wondering if their careers or even their lives are in danger as long as Trump is President

  • Intimidating and threatening witnesses
