Welcome to another Missouri Mondays! We need your voice and action this week for Kevin Strickland’s freedom, to demand that LGBTQ history return to our Capitol, to help protect voting rights, abortion access, and more! Thank you for all you do. YOU make a difference!

Texas Doctor Says He Violated Texas Restrictive Abortion Law to Challenge It

In defiance of the Texas ban on abortions after six weeks, Alan Braid, an OB/GYN from San Antonion has performed an abortion. “I understand that by providing an abortion beyond the new legal limit, I am taking a personal risk, but it’s something I believe in strongly,” he told the Washington Post. Braid believes he has a “duty of care” to his patients, and is willing to face personal risk.

Judge Rules Against Missouri AG - Kevin Strickland’s Innocence Hearing Will Be in Jackson County

“Judge Kevin Harrell ruled Friday that an evidentiary hearing for Kevin Strickland could proceed, possibly as early as October 5. Judge Kevin Harrell said Friday that an evidentiary hearing that could lead to Strickland’s freedom could start as early as Oct. 5, depending on schedules of the lawyers involved. That comes after Harrell denied a motion filed by the Missouri Attorney General’s Office that had asked that Harrell and other judges in Jackson County recuse themselves and be disqualified from hearing Strickland’s case.” KCStar Sept 17

  • Call Gov. Parson (573) 751-3222 and demand that Kevin Strickland be pardoned. Despite evidence and calls from prosecutors to release him, Parson clings to his misguided “belief” that Strickland is guilty.

“LGBTQ History Exhibit Goes Unmentioned by Missouri Board Governor Cited For Its Removal”

An exhibit titled “Making History: Kansas City and the Rise of Gay Rights” documenting the LGBT rights movement in Kansas City, was removed from the state capitol by Missouri state parks officials after a legislative staffer complained. “When news broke that an LGBTQ history exhibit was suddenly and without warning removed from the Missouri Capitol, Gov. Mike Parson contended the reason was that it didn’t get pre-approval from a board he chairs. But at that board’s first meeting in more than a year on Monday, neither the exhibit nor the state Capitol museum was discussed.”--Missouri Independent Sept 13

We proudly support Senator Razer and stand with him in denouncing this disgraceful act of LGBT discrimination in our state capitol!

  • Send a message of support to Senator Razer 573-751-6607 greg.razer@senate.mo.gov

  • Call Gov. Parson (573) 751-3222 and tell him that LGBT history is MO history, and to return the KC LGBT history display to the Capitol Museum.

Fight back on behalf of those who lack resources to travel long distances for safe and legal abortion. Women of color stand to lose the most.

National Voter Registration Day Sept. 28

National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. First observed in 2012, it has quickly gained momentum ever since. Nearly 4.5 million voters have registered to vote on the holiday to date. Celebrated on the fourth Tuesday of September, National Voter Registration Day will next take place on September 28, 2021 when volunteers and organizations from all over the country will “hit the streets” in a single day of coordinated field, technology and media efforts. National Voter Registration Day seeks to create broad awareness of voter registration opportunities to reach tens of thousands of voters who may not register otherwise.
