08/19/19 - Missouri Mondays -“Tell Senator Blunt is is time to DO SOMETHING! about gun violence!

Gun violence is an epidemic in Missouri and in our nation yet Senator Roy Blunt, who is Chair of the Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations committee, indicated he does NOT support new funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research to “better understand and prevent injury and death as a result of firearm violence.” Roll Call Aug 9 2019  Earlier this year the House passed fiscal 2020 Labor-HHS-Education spending bill providing $25 million each to the CDC and NIH so if the Senate included this funding in it’s spending bill it would be the first time in decades Congress specifically allocated funding for gun violence research.

“There should be nothing partisan about researching our nation’s gun violence epidemic,” said Evan Hollander, spokesman for House Appropriations Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey, a New York Democrat. “If Republicans are sincere about preventing more massacres in our communities, they will join House Democrats to support research into how to prevent deaths and injuries from guns.” Roll Call Aug 9 2019

Tell Senator Blunt there is nothing partisan about researching gun violence to help prevent injuries and save lives!  Allocate CDC and NIH funding for this research in the Senate spending bill!
