08/17/20 - Missouri Mondays - The fight for an America that lives up to our ideals!

First let’s take a minute for this historic moment to sink in...Senator Kamala Harris will be the first woman, the first Indian-American, the first Asian American, the first Black vice president, if elected! WE ARE OVERJOYED! As Joe Biden announced his VP pick he said, “I need someone working alongside me who is smart, tough, and ready to lead. Kamala is that person”. He also described Kamala as “a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants.” Harris said this about Biden, “I believe our country wants and needs some leadership that provides a vision of the country in which everyone could see themselves” and “Biden can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as President, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals.” We can’t wait and will be watching for their formal nomination at the Democratic National Convention this week!

Meanwhile the shameless Republican attacks on our democracy continue as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on across the country and right here in Missouri. Governor Parson still refuses to take action on a statewide mask mandate that health experts recommend for slowing the spread of the virus and saving lives. Parson, Secretary of State Ashcroft, and the GOP majority legislature left an unnecessarily complicated mess of requirements for voters who simply want to stay safe voting by mail in the 2020 elections and as a result may be discouraged or disenfranchised. The President acknowledges his shocking public attacks on the post office are rooted in his desire to keep Americans from voting by mail! Last week four mail-processing machines were removed from the Kansas City Missouri USPS facility as part of the changes made by his Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy. KSHB Aug 14

When democracy is under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back!
