07/22/19 - Missouri Mondays - Take action! Volunteer! Stay informed!

It’s been two weeks since the Missouri Supreme Court ruled that Secretary of State Ashcroft acted outside his legal authority in rejecting ACLU-MO’s requests for referendum petitions. Yet Secy. Ashcroft continues to drag his feet in the hopes of running out the clock to delay signature gathering, denying Missourians their constitutional right to have a say on the extreme abortion ban through the petition process. Our friends with ProgressWomen posted recently that they “expect legal challenges against HB 126 if it does become law on August 28, 2019” and that “successful federal court challenges have been filed against similar laws this year in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Ohio, and Kentucky, but the referendum remedy must be exhausted first.”

TAKE ACTION! CALL Secy. Ashcroft at (573) 751-4936 and tell him to do his job and certify the ballot language NOW!

STAY INFORMED! on ACLU-MO’s referendum petition effort and SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER! at http://yourchoicemo.org

While we wait for next steps to fight the ban, we hope those of you in the KC area will join our friends with Heartland Alliance for Progress on Monday, July 22 from 5:15-7:00 PM at KCPT in the Community Room for an important and informative discussion titled “Follow the Money”. Learn how to research where the money for campaigns originates, how those who contribute might benefit from their donations, and what must be done to make elections more transparent and fair. Guest speakers include Sean Soendker Nicholson, leader for the Clean Missouri initiative campaign, and Lauren Gepford, Executive Director of Missouri Democrats. For more details go HERE.

THANK YOU! for answering the Missouri Mondays CALL TO ACTION!
