06/17/19 Keep up the pressure on Gov. Parson to END STATE-MANDATED SEXUAL ASSAULT!
The fight to keep access to legal and safe abortion care in Missouri is not over! Although a St. Louis Circuit Court judge allowed our state's sole remaining clinic with abortion access to remain open temporarily, that order expires this Friday, June 21. At that time the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services may fail to renew the clinic’s license. Such denial would force Missouri women to seek abortion care outside the state. As we reported last week not only has the DHSS threatened to close the St. Louis clinic, it has also mandated an unnecessary, invasive pelvic exam to be done 72 hours before any abortion procedure. Critics have called such orders state-mandated sexual assault. Doctors forced to comply are heartbroken over an order to further traumatize women at one of the most vulnerable times of their lives. We must keep up the pressure on Gov. Parson! Call the Governor at (573) 751-3222 and sign the ProgressWomen petition telling him to end this cruel and medically unnecessary procedure and demand DHSS Dir. Williams immediate resignation!
We also told you about Missouri’s Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft refusing to approve referendum petitions from ACLU of Missouri and others to let the people of Missouri decide whether to support the extreme and draconian abortion law that takes away bodily control even from victims of rape or incest. The ACLU of Missouri filed a lawsuit challenging Ashcroft’s decision and requested the ballot measure be approved but in a setback last Thursday, Cole County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Green dismissed their case.
