Hearings conclude for historic Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
Grace under pressure. We witnessed an extraordinary and historic Senate hearing this week, appropriately during Women’s History Month, as Ketanji Brown Jackson answered a deluge of questions, some insightful and others maddeningly partisan showboating. “Today, you’re my star. You are my harbinger of hope,” said Senator Cory Booker, as he praised her stellar accomplishments and her unflappable demeanor during questioning. “You are worthy. You are a great American … I know what it’s taken for you to sit in that seat.”
“On the third day of confirmation hearings, Jackson was asked by the California senator Alex Padilla about advice she would give to youth of color who may be doubting themselves. “What would you say, Judge Jackson, to all those young Americans, those most diverse generation in our nation’s history – what do you say to some of them who may doubt that they can one day achieve the same great heights that you have?” asked Padilla. “The young people are the future and I want them to know that they can do and be anything,” responded Jackson, with emotion. To underscore her point, she shared a story about feeling out of place as a freshman at Harvard, saying she felt very homesick. “I was really questioning: do I belong here? Can I make it in this environment?” recalled Jackson. But then, she said, a Black woman whom she didn’t know approached her and told Jackson to “persevere”. So, Jackson said: “I would tell them to persevere.”

MISSOURI LEGISLATURE - ACTIONS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS WEEK!
The MO Senate finally passed a congressional district boundaries map last week and now SS#2 HCS HB 2117 must go back to the House for approval.
Following months of inaction, the Senate voted 20-10 on March 24 in favor of a plan to redraw Missouri’s eight U.S. congressional districts that appears to preserve the current partisan split of six Republicans and two Democrats. However, the bill faces an uncertain reception when it returns to the MO House of Representatives.
Call your state representative and demand that SS#2 HCS HB 2117 be approved as quickly as possible!

STOP MO GOP ATTACK ON OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS!
Numerous bills will be heard in the Senate Education Committee this TUES MARCH 29 at 12:00 pm. These bills attempt to control what is taught in public schools and place insurmountable burdens on teachers and school districts. The bills include banning certain curriculum, forcing teachers and districts to publish ALL curriculum materials online, even teacher-created lessons, banning any divisive topics, requiring that all history and American literature courses promote a positive image of the country, withholding 50% of state funding from districts that do not cooperate, assessing fines of $1,000 per day that a district fails to display all curriculum online, and more.
Call members of the Senate Education Committee and demand they stop this attack on our schools and teachers.

MEDICAID EXPANSION IN THE NEWS
A bill heard Tuesday in a Senate committee, HCS HJR 117 would require Medicaid expansion clients to work or be in job training. “It would be a massive problem,” one health clinic founder testified. “We have some who still can’t read and write who came to the clinic."
